COMPETITIONS AT TAKAPUNA.

Takapuna Beach was thronged with' young folk yesterday afternoon to engage in the various competitions organised by the Hov. B. Palgrave Davy, superintendent of tho Now Zealand Children's Mission. About 200 children designed in the sand, each section being about 14yds., square. There were three divisions— undor 9, between 9 and 11, and over 11. Four prizes were given in each division. A riddle competition followed in the huge sand-cathedral, where about 400 assembled, besides adults who looked on. Then came hymn, prayer, and a bright talk on the motto of tho Takapuna school, " Deeds, Not Words." The sum of £1 Os 6d was collected for the Protestant Orphanages fund. Altogether the children had three hours of real enjoyment. The mission continues all this week and next Monday and Tuesday.
