SUMMER MEETING .CONCLUDED.

MONEYMAKER WINS DOMINION HANDICAP. The Otabuhu Trotting Club's Summer Meeting was concluded yesterday, when the popularity of Alexandra Park gatherings was once again strongly demonstrated, the attendance being estimated at 10,000. Large fields were again the order of the day. and tho contests throughout were invested with much interest. An unfortunate contretemps was, however, connected with the concluding event of the programme, the Farewell Handicap, four of the contestants falling about a couple of furlongs after the start. Piletta, who was driven by E, Young, tripped and fell at that point, and Kewpie (G. A. McKendriok), Great Britain (R. MoMillan). and Van Coronado (J. Conway), each in turn colliding, were thrown out of the contest. Fortunately oil the riders as well as the horses involved cscapod without injury. The management of the meeting throughout was most satisfactory and left nothing to be desired. The totalisator investments during .the day amounted to £41,677 10s, against £44,315 on the corresponding day.. l ?. B ' year. As they went past the stand Regret wae in command, and she had a strong advantage at tho back, but broke at the end of three furlongs, and Flora Dash wont into the lead, and when thoy reached tho stand she was leading Regret by a length, with Gold Bud next. In the race up tho back there was a ; complete transformation, and when the last ; three furlongs camo to bo undertaken Gold b'lnke and Wairemana wcro racing stride for stride and so they camo on to the head of the straight, where Gold Flake gradually drow away, and won by a length and a-kalf-Wairemana was two lengths in front of Heather Girl, who in turn wae a length in advance of Goldman. Passing the stand, *Amberito had Miss Huon Junior as his nearest attendant, with Rio Grande next. Going up tho back, Amberite and Mutu were racing together five lengths in front, and the latter was in front for a short distance, but, breaking, Amberite was left in front, Hova ran into second place, but just as he threatened danger he broke at the threo-furlongs post. Amberite showed tho way into the straight, and looked like winning easily. The whole of tho leaders, however, broke badly inside the distance, which added exoitement to the situation. Sewoll got Amberite to strike the proper gait in the nick of time, and he got his horse home a neck in, front of Wild Nut, who was two lengths in front of Mies Huon Junior, with Succory a neck away next. William the First commenced smartly, and when they raced across the top stretch no had Moneymaker a s his nearest attendant. with Comedy Chief in third place. In the race past the stand Moneymaker had reduced William the First's lead to four lengths, Prize Pearl, Comedy Chief an* Nita, Bell being a couple of lengths away, next, while Grand Voyage, who had badly, broken, was last. Moneymaker further improved his position at the back, and William tho First only had a couple of lengths advantage when they got to the head of the straight the second time, and the former, continuing to creep up, only a length separated the two leaders at tho stand. .Moneymaker challenged strongly approaohing the half-mile post, and settling William the First without any difficulty, he streaked right away, and he had three lengths lead at the top stretch, where Nita Bell took Becond place. The bay mare struggled on gamely, but Moneymaker was not seriously threatened, and tho Rothschild gelding won by a length and a-half, Nita Bell was Mparated by two lengths and ahalf from William the First, with Gold Girl, half a length away, fourth, and Woodvale fifth. Salamander was favourite. To Awa quickly worked her way into the lead, and at they raced past tho stand she was leading Ben Wallace and Salamander, who were together. As they raced up the back stretch, Salamander wont up to Te Awa, and they rtfeed level for half a furlong, when Salamander drew away, and the favourite showed the way into the straight two lengths in front of Profiteer, and Te Awa close handy. Salamander, ridden right out, got home a longth in front of Te Awa. who came again and defeated Profiteer by half a length for second place. Then, at an interval of half a length, followed William tho First, with Jay's 801 l fifth. Time, 2m 19s.

The Messrs, Moses bred the celebrated racehorse Poitrel, and it was in their colours the horse named won the Melbourne Cup of 1920.
