ONEHUNGA.
Tho Onehunga Borough Council mot last evening. Hero were present: Messrs. J. E. Cowoll, Deputy-Mayor, who presided, E. Morton. P. R. Lipsconibe, T. Gilbert, and A. MoColl. On receipt of a circular from the Minister for Health urging a renewed effort in tho destruction of rats, the town clerk reported that the sanitary inspector would furnish a fortnightly, report on tho stops taken by tho citizens in this matter. Messrs. P. S. Lipseombe. E. Morton, and T. Gilbert were reappointed the oouncil's representatives on the Town Baad Committee. The citizens will be represented | on the samo committee by Mes'srs. H. Bower, S. Plemming. and J. Beavor, MOUNT EDEN. Tho Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening, those present being: The Mayor, Mr. J. \V. Shackelford, and Messrs. W. Woollev, J. Smith, P. C. Brew. T. T. Garland. G. L. Taylor, T. McNab, J. W. Bammiil, h. Joll, J. P. Eooton. and E. H. Potter. The engineer was instructed to prepare plans for increasine the supply of water to residences in Mount Eden Road, In acoordance with a promise given to Mr. P. S. Potter some time ago, tho engineer was instructed to complete the rockery round Pottor's Park, the cost to be deWed from a grant by the trustees of the Young Estate. 1 The Mayor brought forward the matter of reorganising tho water department of the council. He suggested that tho present foreman be' appointed to take charge of the turncocks and do other necessary work in this connection, and that a foreman to undertake all other work under the direction of the engineer be appointed. Mr. joll moved as, an amendment that the matter of reorganising tho water department be referred to the Streets Committee for a. report. After a long discussion the motion was carried. . , , , _ Five tenders were received for the Pennarrow drainage work, the cost pf which wis estimated by the engineer to be £U2s. Tli© tender of Winter and Co.. 6s Gd, being tlie lowest, was accepted. The others were all considerably above the price quoted by the, engineer. • It wag unanimously decided that the ratepayers bo asked to sanction a loan of £2000 far enlarging the swimming baths and the dressing accommodation, and to provide seating accommodation there.
