CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF.
AMATEURS' PROPOSAL. LONDON. Feb. 10. The Golf Championship Committee is considering a petition for the revision of the amateur golf rules to govern the competitions at Prestwick in May next. It is not thought that the 1922 championship will bo affected.
It was stated in a recent cablegram that bv an overwhelming majority, amateur golfers had voted in favour 0 f a suggested new rule, that the qualifying rounds of the amateur championship should be decided bv stroke instead of match play. The 217 competitors in the championships of 1920 and 1921 were circularised, with the result that 129 favoured the proposal. 19 were again.'t it, and 99 did not reply. The proposal provides that 32 competitors Bhall qualify by stroke play, and that these shall afterwards be drawn to meet over 36 holes by match play.
