MR. J. A. SPENDER.
LONDON, Feb. 9. Mr J. A. Spender, political director of the Westminster Gazette, is retiring. Mr. Spender has been connected with the Westminster Gazetto since 1896. More than any other 1 London editor he expressed himself in his paper. Recently the Westminster Gazette was changed from an evening to a morning paper. Mr. Spender left the editorial chair and became political adviser, in which capacity he attended the Washington Conference. He is 60 years of age, and wdl probably devote his time to completing fhs original life of Sir Henry Campbell-tannerman, on which he is engaged.
