THREAT OF A BOYCOTT.

The conference of transport workers rejected the proposed wage cuts, and authorised the negotiations committee to endeavour to avoid a serious rupture. Another meeting of employers has been arranged.

The conference passed a resolution to boycott brewers if, notwithstanding the present high price of beer, they attempt to cut their employees' wages.

SYDNEY LABOUR PROPOSAL. LEVY ON WAGES BILL. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Feb. 17. The Labour Council framed a scheme for an unemployed maintenance fund. It states that unemployment fluctuates round 3 per cent, of the total employed, and suggests that employers contribute 3 per cent, on the wage bill, and that a tax be imposed on unearned increment, profits and income of 2 per cent, and upwards, payments at the basic wage rate to be made to men and women who are unemployed.
