THE WILDING SHIELD.
CANTERBURY V WELLINGTON. [by telegbaph.—press association.] CHRISTCHDRCH, Friday. In the first day's play of the Wildmg Shield challenge tennis match Canterbury won five matches to Wellington's one. The best match of the day was that between Greenwood and Swanaton, the latter giving a fine display of accurate driving. Ollivier out-classed Salmond, and Wilding wsb too clever for Andrews. In the doubles Salmond and Parker had one set in and were 5—3 against Wilding and Aitken, but the Canterbury team rallied and took the match. The
Singles.—Greenwood lost to Svmnston, 4—6, 6-3, 3-6; Wilding beat Andrews, 6-2, 6—l; Ollivier beat Salmond, 6-2. 6—l'; Aitken beat Parker. 3—6, 6—4, 6—l. Doubles.—Ollivier and Greenwood beat Swanston and Andrews, 6—3, 6-1; Wilding and Aitken beat Parker and Salmond, 3—6, 7-5, 6-2.
