MEAT PRICES IN LONDON.

INQUIRIES BEING MADE. [BT TELEGRAPH.—PBESB ASSOCIATION.] WE'JJNGTON. Thursday. Referring to a statement that a sale of prime Canterbury lamb had been made in London at 9d per lb., c.i.f., and that mutton values had fallen, the Prime Minister said the Government had as yet no information but inquiries were being made. It was stated that it was possible a parcel of old season's lamb may have been sold at the reduced price but it was desirable that more information should be obtained before any further expression of opinion was given. " One piece of certain information is available,' he added. _ "I know of a cablegram received this, morning which has fixed the sale of a parcel of new season's lamb at a very satisfactory price. Reference to the liberation of Armour's meat suggests the creation of an idea that the placing of this on the market may cause an over-supply for the time being and a consequent fall in prices, but it should be pointed out that an agreement was arrived at with Armour and Company that the marketing should be done in such a way as to avoid such a thing happening. The conditions agreed upon under which the meat will be shipped will ensure that this will be the oase._ If the reported statement be correct it affords a good illustration for the necessity which existed for the passing of the Meat Export Control Act and for quickly setting up a board of control."
