GOAL OF INDIAN POLICY.

<#• ■ EQUAL STATUS IN EMPIRE. DIFFICULTIES OVERSEAS. A. and N.Z. „ LONDON, July 27. Mr. Sastri, the Indian representative at the Empire Conference, speaking at the Lord Mayor's luncheon, said he came to England to ask that the status of Indians as equal partners in the Empire should be recognised not merely in the United Kingdom, where there was no deduction whatever, but with equal warmth and readiness throughout the Empire. "We are," he said, " under no delusions regarding the difficulties to be encountered before this is accomplished. We fully aware of the peculiar circumstances of parts of the Empire where the meaning of the Empire is not fully understood, where more education is necessary before the electorates understand, the significance of lofty ideals and equality of brotherhood whereon the Empire is based. We have learned the lesson of patience.which conquers difficulties, and we ' hope the citizens of the United Kingdom will help us in seeking a perfect and undiminished equality with the rest of the Empire."
