NEW LYNN SCHOOL CARNIVAL.
NEARLY £800 RAISED.
The concluding events of the New Lynn school carnival, which has been running for two months, to raise money to improve the school grounds, took place on Saturday. The weather was unfavourable for the elaborate outdoor function that had beep arranged, but a modified programme was carried out .in the school, and the Brick and Tile *CompaDy's large shed. Following is the result of the queen competition:—East ward. Miss Mary Crum, £270 3s Bd, representing 64,844 votes; central ward, Miss -Jessie McWhirter, £185 15s, 44,580 votes; north-west ward. Miss Nina Griffen, £183 12s 4d, 44,068 votes; south ward, Miss Edna Tanfield, £141 5s Bd, 43,908 votes. The proceeds total £780 16s Bd. Some gifts, including, two sections of land, have still to be disposed of. As the Education Department has promised a subsidy, a substantial sum will t>e available, and residents claim that with the expenditure the grounds of the school will be second to none in the province.
