DOMINION'S POPULATION.
ESTIMATE AT MARCH 31.
s TOTAL EUROPEAN: An estimate qf the population of the Dominion at March 31 has been published by the Goveriument Statistician. Births registered duriug* the quarter numbered 6835, and deaths 2444, the excess of births being 4391. Arrivals from abroad numbered 12,075, and . the departures 6576, an excess of 5499. The addition of these two numbers to the estimate of December- 31 gives a total European population of 1,204,722. This number,, comprises 609,719 males,-and 595,003 females. Including the Maori population, and that of the Cook and- other Pacific islands, as shown by the 1916 census, the total population of the Dominion is estimated at 1,267,295.
