THE TARIFF COMMISSION.

ARRIVAL IN AUCKLAND.

SITTINGS OPEN THIS MORNING.

The New Zealand Tariff Commission, coD&s:ing of Mr. W. B. Montgomery, Comptroller of Customs, (chairman). Mr. W. G. McDonald, chairman of the Board of Trade, Mr. M. P. Cameron, hardware expert to the Customs Department, Mr. F. Davies, inspector of customs, Wellington, and Mr. R. J. Gray, examining officer of customs, Wellington (secretary), arrived in Auckland yesterday. Mr. R. W. Daltou, British Trade Commissioner, is accompanying the commission for the purpose of giving evidence. The sittings of the commission will open this morning in the Customs Office, -Government Buildings, in Customs Street, and will be continued for at least two weeks. The members visited a number of manufacturing establishments in the city yesterday, and were agreeably surprised with the class of goods turned out here. They have had similar experiences in the other centres of the Dominion visited by them.

The Minister for Customs, the Hon. W. Downie Stewart, will be present at the sittings of the commission on Monday and Tuesday.
