MILLION FROM NORTH ISLAND MORE PASSENGERS AND GOODS. [BT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ' WELLINGTON, Thursday. The returns of revenue and expenditure of the Railway Department for the year ended March 31, were gazetted to-night. Compared with those for the previous year they axe as follow : —
The number of passengeis carried during' the year was 15,315,614, against 12,760,814 for the previous year, an increase of 2,554,826. The increase in the number of second-class passengers was 2,120,000, while the increase in first-class passengers was 432,000.
Live stock carried numbered 7,505,967, a decrease of 168,565, while goods carried totalled 6,085,360 tons, an increase of 488,128 tons.-
