UNDERPAID MINISTERS.
POVERTY IN THE MANSE.
ACTION BY PRESBYTERY.
"Theve are instances ol real hardship and suiforing among the moro poorly-paid ministers," said the Roy. J. Pattison, at the meeting of the Auckland Presbytery last evening. " I had a talk with one minister's wife tho other day, and her family is not even getting some of the necessaries of lifo. I believe this is not uncommon at manses where the minister's salary is not much moro than £200 a year." The Rev, C. J. Tocker said ho knew of a minister who had had to draw on private- means to tho extent of £150 during the last 18 months. How, therefore, could those poorly-paid ministers, who had no private means, be faring? A committee was instructed to visit the congregations which pay less than £300 a year ,to their ministers, this being in accordance with the wish expressed by tho general assembly,
