TAMAKI WEST INCLUSION.

SUPPORT BY PUBLIC MEETING.

The question of the amalgamation of 1 the Tamakl West District with the Auckland City was discussed at a meeting held at St. Heliors Bay on Monday evening. The meeting was called by the Tamaki West Road Board, the chairman of which, Mr.' E.. Pilkington, presided over an attendance of about 250. Keen interest was shown in the subject in view of the fact that the proposal will be submitted to. a public p6ll to-morrow.

Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, member of the city council, and a ratepayer of the district, the advantages of amalgamation and refuted many false impressions regarding the attitude of the city to. Greaser Auckland. Mr. F. G. Baskett, president of the St. HeliorsKohimarama Progress League, spoke in favour of the proposal, giving tie considered viows of the league's committee, as to why amalgamation was Heeded in the district, and emphasising tho fact that the district was, young and that now 'was the time to secure for the- benefit of future generations, public parks and reserves while land wag available at a

reasonable price. He also Bpoke on the subject of drainage, which was particularly urgent for the flats of Kohimarama and St. Hollers. He said tho city council was a'bodv which carried immensely greater weight with such authorities as the railways in furthering a roadway to march with the railway across _ Hobson Bay when that scheme was put in hand, and the council's influence would be greater in securing better access to the district by water and land. It was stated that the difference between the rates of Tamaki West and the city was only about 10 per cent., and that when the loans which had been authorised by Tamaki West were raised, the local rates would be equal to thoso

Mr. Holdsworth proposed a motion conveying a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman, and stating that the meeting sympathised with .him in.his difficulties, and believed that amalgamation with the city was the only solution.
