TIMBER FROM AMERICA.
kir, I have sold the house I am now residing in, and want to build on a section in the same district, but cannot du so, as I am unable to buy timber, the demand for same being more than the supply. Upon hearing that Oregon was being brought into the countiy, I and a good many more -who are waiting to build had hopes that we "would soon obtain relief _ from our troubles, but, to my astonishment, I find in Saturdav s Herald that the Wellington sawmiller-? are frantically trying to get duty placed on this timber. TJnder all the circumstances, would it not be wiser to put a duty on all timber exported from the country? Then it might be possible to get some for building purposes. It seems disgraceful that in a timber-producing country lite this timber should be so scarce and expensive. Jack Plant.
