COALMINERS' DEMANDS.
CONFERENCE ON FRIDAY. A conference between representatives of tho Coalmine Owners' Association and the Miners' Federation, for the consideration of a new agreement, will open in Wellington on Friday. After having at first refused to meet tho Miner*' Federation until six of the demands had been withdrawn, tho association agreed to tho conference. This decision was conveyed to tho federation, with the added statement that the mineowners could not conceivo of any arguments that would render acceptable the six demands to which objection was taken. Those were tho abolition of the contract system, a minimum wage, a five-day week, and a sixhour day, abolition of tfct afternoon shift, payment for holidays, and payment for tihii'. lost. Of the Auckland delegates, Mr. W. J.' Ralph left yesterday for Wellington, while Mr. S, S. .Wight, of the' Pukemiio Collieries, Limited, will leayg to-day.
