ESTABLISHMENT PROVED.
GAME IN SOUNDS DISTRICT. [BT TELEGRAPH. — SPECIAL REPORTER.] WELIJNGTON, Monday. Early in the present century, moose and Wapiti deer, obtained from America, were liberated by the Government in the West Coast fiordlands, at Dusky Sound and George Sound. Another lot was liberated in Dusky Sound in 1910. Since then very few traces have been seen of them, and the Government agreed last year that this season Mr. Moorhouse. conservator of fish and game at Rotorua, should take a small party with him and make investigations. The party consisted, in addition, of Mr. J. H. Wadsworth, of the Southland Acclimatisation Society, j and Mr. Leslie Hinge, photographer. A small ketch was engaged at the Bluff to take them to fiordland. The party left the Bluff on February 12, and after a rough passage reached Preservation Inlet on February 17. The Minister for Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. Downie Stewart, received the following telegram to-day from Mr. Moorhouse : "Returned to Bluff late last night. Wapiti and moose well established in various sounds."
