FLIGHT FROM FUJIYAMA

FALL OF ASHES REPORTED. FEAR OF AN ERUPTION. Timos. LONDON. Dec. 21. A heavy fall of ashes, an inch deep in some places, has taken place around Mount Fujiyama, which has been quiescent for centuries. Many residents are fleeing, being afraid that the sacred mountain is going to erupt violently. The authorities are uncertain -whether the ashes are from ! Fujiyama or Asama, or have been blown inland from a distant eruption. Fujiyama, the most celebrated mountain J of Japan, is «bout 70 miles by rail from Tokio. It is a quiescent volcano, and small outbursts of steam are still to be observed at some points. An eijuption is recorded so lately as the early part of the eighteenth century.
