A mysterious tragedy occurred at Lindfield, in the northern suburbs, yesterday, when Dr. Tozer, the well-known cricketer, was shot dead at the residence of Mr. H. S. Mort, The latter telephoned to Dr. Tozer yesterday morning asking him to come and see his wife, who had been ill for some days. J Later in the day Dr. Tozer was found I dead in Mrs. Mort's bedroom with a bullet i through his brain, while Mrs. Mort was j shot through the left breast. The affair 1 is a complete mystery. Though it occurred aarly in the day, the police were not informed until late at night. Mrs. Mort is unconscious, and is unable to give details. Latest details of the tragedy show that Mrs. Mort is suffering from the effects of poison, besides a bullet wound. It now appears that Dr. Tozer for some time was closeted in the drawing room with Mrs. Mort. About noon a lady companion to Mrs. Mort, hearing a noise resembling shots, in the room, went to the door and found it locked. She asked if anything was wrong and Mrs. Mort answered "No." About five o'clock in the afternoon. Mrs. Mort called from her bedroom for a glass of water to be left outside j the donr. Later when the door was forced Mrs. Mort was found unconscious, and Dr. Tozer sitting dead on the couch with a revolver on his thigh. Dr. Tozer was to have captained the New South Wales cricket team against Queensland on New Year's Dav. At the test match yesterday all the flags were at half-mast and the Australians wore black arm badges in memory of Dr. Tozer.
