RIFLE-SHOOTING.
THE AKARANA DEFENCE CLUB.
Members of the Akarana Defence Rifle Club who visited the Penrose range on Saturday were rewarded with good shooting conditions despite the rain. The wind was light, and the atmosphere perfectly clear. In consequence some good scores were made The ranges were 800 and 900 yards, and the competition was for trophies presented by Mrs. A. E. T. Devore. Major R. G. Cox. and Mr. J B Torbet to A. B. and C sections respectively. In A section Rifleman P O Veale made 95 out of a possible 100, 'and won easily. His score at 800 yards started with an "inner," his other nine shots being all bullseyes. Other good score' 3 were made by W. Powell and G. G. Ashiey, each compiled 45 at the 900 yards range. Silver spoons were won by Rifleman P. O. Veale and J. B. Torbet in A and B sections respectively, but owing to there being insufficient entries in C section no award was made. Scores: —
