AUCKLAND SUMMER MEETING.

The showery weather on Saturday did not ~>nou,,y interfere with training operations at LJerslie. but after the early morning work tn« grass track, were closed. First Salute, who was included in the early division, was responsible for an attractive gallop once round. The Cup favourite was picked up at the five furlongs post hy his stable mate Arch Salute, and at a solid pace the pair completed the gallop. First Salute con--nucs to carry a very Ijright appearance, and can be voted one of the fittest horses at Hnerslie.

Ihe Auckland Racing Clubs summer programme wild require turther attention from owners on or before Friday next, on which date acceptances fall due lor the Robinson Handicap. Grafton Hurdle Race, Nursery Handicap, and Christmas Handicap, together with final pay merits ior the Shortland date, Auckland Cup, Railway Handicap, Great Northern Foal Stakes, Forty-seventh Great Northern Derby, and Twenty-sixth Royal Stakeß.

THE VISITING CONTINGENT.

[BY TELEIJBAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENTS.]

CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday

The Canterbury horses with engagements at the Auckland Racing Ciub's summer Meeting wnl au iea,ve ior the North during the next lew clays. K. J. Mason will make e, stajrt on Tuesuay with Vespucci and Rossini, and wilt be joined on the way Dy Gloaming. H. Cutt.-, will go on Thursday with Winter Wind, Nightraider, Miss Mimic. Counterstroke. and Winning Hit. while fc. Christmas will leave on the same day with Arrowsmith. Counter Attack and Going tp. Vespucci has come on nicely since the Riccarton carnival, and he may be expected to race prominently ,n any event he contests at Kderslie. Rossini is aiso imoroving. and lie is likely to show up in some oi the sprints.

All Oi Sir George Clifford's team are in gooci lett.e. Nightraider has just resumed vol-* alter a speli. and he might win one ' of tee long races if only he is in the humour to do his best. Winter Wind has . got through useful tasks lately, and ho should give a good account of himself in his en- j gagements. Miss Mimic ran three smart races at Riccarton last month, and only re- ' quires a shade of luck to win a decent stake ' at Ellerslie. Counterstroke is a useful hack who may not stay. Winning Hit is scarcely up to top class, but he is a solid game colt, i who may win one Sf the minor two-year-old races.

Arrowsmith continues to show exceptional j ability asl a sprinter. The work Performed by the English horse has been of a brilliant : character. This morning he got to the end i ot five furlongs in a minute, and there is j no doubt that he is one of the best gallopers I have had here. With all his weight ! Arrowsmith must have a good chance in the I Railway Handicap. His stable mates Counter Attack and Going Up have no public form though they can go fast for a few furlongs. ! WELLINGTON, Saturday. Since Sunart'a victory at Woodville he is ! a much-discussed candidate for the Auckland : Cup There is no doubt that Mr. R. A. Mackenzie's horse won his race at Wood- ! ville decisively, but there was not an Auck- ! land Cup neld behind him, and there is also : just a doubt as to whether he will be sea- j soned enough to run out a strong two miles this month. j Kilgour was very sore at Woodville. and! S e , is not likely to accompany Sunart to Euerslie. Blackhead and Martial Dawn are likely to ' be sent to Ellershe to fulfil summer engage- ' ments. * ; +w -R aTis infor ,nied the writer at Woodville that it was unlikely that any of his two-year-olds would race at Ellerslie in the sum- ' mer. the full-sister to Desert Gold I Who won at Woodville, will probably not be : raced much until the autumn.
