DESERTED FISHING BOAT.
FOUND PARTLY SUBMERGED.
ANCHORED OFF BROWN'S ISLAND.
Inquiries regarding the whereabouts of Mr. John Pollock, a returned soldier, who owns the fishing boat Bessie, are being made by the Auckland police. The boat was discovered lying at anchor, partly submerged, off Brown's Island, on Saturday, but no trace of the owner or crew could be found. She had about 20 fathoms of chain out and attached to the stern was a large round-bottomed dinghy, which was swamped. The indications were that there had been no one on board for several days. In the cabin was a good supply of provisions and some clothing, nothing being found that would servo to show why the craft had been abandoned.
The Bessie, which is fitted with a 5-horsepower oil engine, was formerly owned by Mr. T. Bowden, of Putiki Bay, Waihekc, but was soid in February to Mr. Pollock, -whose intention at the time was to use her in the fishing industry. She was brought up to Auckland on Saturday by the inspector of fisheries. Nothing is known so far of the movements of Mr. Pollock, neither is it known if there was anyone else associated with him on the boat.
