DAMAGES FOR SLANDER.
SISTER AGAINST SISTER.
PLAINTIFF AWAEDED £20.
Four sisters were the central figures in a slander action, heard by Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The plaintiff, Mrs. Mary Jane Cortesi (Mr. E. E. Matthews), claimed £100 damages from her sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Adeline Elizabeth Annan and Mr. John Alexander Annan (Mr A Moody). The alleged slander suggested that the plaintiff had. been intimate with a man at Taumarunni. The plaintiff and the defendant, who both gave evidence, were each supported by a sister, the four sisters and plaintiff's daughter entering the witness-box in turn. Judgment was given in favour of the plaintiff* damages being assessed at £20.
