ROWING.

NOTES AND COMMENTS.

The inter-club race for the Mcllwraith Cup will be held this afternoon. The Auckland Rowing Club will hold its postponed trial fours for the Walter Clark -Memorial Shield to-day. The following crew will participate in the race for the Mcllwraith Cup —L. Kirk (stroke), W. Stevenson, R. Murray, V. Murray. The following is a description of the in-ter-collegiate boat race held at Wanganui on Monday, when crews from Wanganui College, Christ's College, Waitaki High School and Christchurch High School competed — All the crews got away well together, Christ's College assuming the lead. When passing under the Aramoho railway bridge Christ's College were about a canvas ahead of Wanganui with Waitaki well up and Christchurch High School lying handy. There was little change in the respective positions of the crews until about half-way from home, when the Wanganui crew, who were pulling a long steady stroke, gradually got on even terms with Christ's College and a great race for the remainder of the distance ensued; The effort Christ's College made to keep up the pace set by Wanganui evidently took much out of them, and they slackened their stroke. Waitaki by a little extra effort got abreast of Christ's College about 50 yards from the winning line. College accepted the challenge for second place, but were unable to shake off the Otago boys, and the bows of both boats went over the line together, with Christchurch High School close at hand.
