Major-General Sir Granville de ,Laune Ryrie arrived in Colombo by the transport Wahehe from Egypt, where he ";c6tßmanded the 2nd Australian Light Horse Brigade. He gave an interviewer emphatic-view's of the Egyptian situation. He- said.: — "There is no doubt in my mind that, the - Egyptians are unfit to govern their country. There are many clever and intelligent men among the Egyptians. Many . have ; been to England and passed through the universities with honours, and they are men who could certainly fill important posts, but there is always this—the moment they are in a,position of authority they- are "baksheesh' men. They' are a 'baksheesh' nation, and they are "corrupt. Corruption has been ingrained into--them for centuries, and you cannot get it out -of them. - - -
