NEEDS OF EDUCATION.
AUCKLAND REQUIREMENTS.
MEMBERS MEET MINISTER.
WELLINGTON. Thursday.
The educational requirements of Auckland, as detailed to the district members of Parliament at the recent conference with the Board of Education, were placed before the Minister for Education, Sir Francis Bell, to-day, by a deputation composed of those members. Sir Frederick Lang, the Hons. G. J. Garland and J. B. Gow, and Messrs. H. Poland, A. Harris. T. W. Rhodes, R. F. Bollard, J. S. Dickson, C. J. Parr, V. H. Reed, and C. H. Poole, were present. Sir Frederick Lang acted as spokesman. The requirements of the district were detailed, special stress being laid upon the need for increased playing areas, and, in view of the rapid growth of the city, of the extension of the buildings. The Minister stated that the amounts on the Estimates had already been fixed, and assured the deputation that there would be a substantial vote for the Auckland district.
Documentary evidence of the urgent needs of the district was left with the Minister, who suggested that it would be wise for the deputation to see him again in reference to the "requests made.
