COAL SUPPLY.
Sir,—How much longer is the public going to accept the ruling of the miners, regarding the coal supply and the cost of it? A live, original government would probably by now have had argosies of the precious firestones approaching these shores from China. No other than Sir Douglas Haig gave pronouncement to the statement that coal in China could be brought to the pitmouth at 2s 6d per ton. This being so, it might be supposed that it could reach here and be retailed at ports at 20s per ton. A little bold originality and independence would teach a handful of miners that they are a very microscopic concern in the world of affaire, with profit to their heads as well as their pockets. Brrowaf.
