LORD JELLICOE'S VISIT.
ADDRESS FROM DEVONPORT.
QUESTION OF SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.
Intimation that Lord Jellicoe has consented to receive an address from the residents of Devonport was received at the meeting of the Devonport Borough Council last evening from the Mayor, Mr. H. S. W. King, who is in Wellington. It is probable that the address will be presented next Wednesday afternon, when the admiral will pay a visit of inspection to the Calliope Dock. The council appointed a sub-committee to arrange for the preparation of the address and for decorations to be displayed during Lord Jellicoe's visit.
A suggestion from the Headmasters' Association that Auckland schools should be closed from Wednesday to Friday in honour of Admiral Jellicoe's visit next week was considered yesterday by the Education Board, which decided to authorise school committees throughout the province to use their discretion in the matter of observing these days as holidays. Special leave of absence was also granted to Dominion Boy Scouts, who will form a guard of honour for Admiral Jellicoe on Tuesday.
A concert for the petty officers and men of H.M.S. New Zealand, which is being arranged by the members of the local Caledonian Society, has been added to the Auckland entertainment programme in connection with Lord Jellicoe's visit. This concert probably win be given next Wednesday evening.
