TRADE WITH ISLANDS.
NEW ZEALAND CRITICISED.
ALLEGED INDIFFERENCE. [by telegraph.—pkess associatiox.] WELLINGTON. Saturday. An officer of the Publio Service, who recently visited the Tongan Group, suites that most of Uie trade with Tonga is being diverted to Sydney and the United States, while beforo the war Germany was a strong competitor for raw products. There is a pronounced feeling in the group, it is stated, that New Zealand is deliberately neglectful of tho question. The natives desire to trade with the Dominion, but nothing is apparently done by the New Zealand Government to provide requisite facilities. Only a moderate quantity of tinned foods is imported from New Zealand while Sydney, houses, whose travellers visit tho Islands regularly, are doing an extensive trade. The Germans foresaw tho great value of the Island trade, and they were even exporting large quantities of taro root to Germany, it having been found to contain valuable medic..al and tonic properties. \
