AMERICAN EXPENDITURE. OUTLAY OF £8,000,000 DAILY. A. and N.Z. NEW YORK, Oct. 16. The Washington correspondent of the New York World states that the United States is paying £8,000,000 daily, or a fourth of the cost of the war. America's expenditure is the highest, Britain's tho second, and Germany's the third. President Wilson has appealed to the State banks to adopt the Federal reserve system, and thus consolidate the gold reserves and give more effective aid for the vigorous prosecution and successful termination of the war. The requisitioning of all American shipping becomes effective to-day. Two million tons of shipping are involved. NEW BRITISH LOAN. £35,000,000 TAKEN IN WEEK. LONDON, Oct. 16. Applications for new war bonds last week totalled nearly £38,000,000.
