ENEMY ARTILLERY ACTIVE AT NIEUPORT AND LENS.
Australian and N.Z. and Reuter. (Rccd. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Oot, 15. Sir Douglas Haig reports: The enemy artillery has displayed more activity in the neighbourhood of Lens and Nieuport. There has been much aerial activity. Four German machines were shot down. An earlier report stated: The enemy last night heavily bombarded our positions on the main ridge southward of Broodseindo. The South Midland territorials made a successful raid last night north-eastward of Roeux, six miles east of Arras. A wireless German official message says: The English penetrated our positions between the Scarpe and the Cambrai-Arras road, but counter-attacks drove them out.
