PIONEERING HARDSHIPS.

THE WEST TAUPO SETTLERS.

[BY TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.}

WELLINGTON. Saturday. A tribute to the work of the settlers who are pioneering the West Taupo County was paid in the House of Representatives yesterday by Mr. J. A. Young (Waikato). He stated that these settlers had no local government until recently, when four new road districts had been constituted— Kakapuku, Wharepapa, and Mangaoaongo. He pleaded for special consideration to their claim for £ for £ subsidies on the loans which they proposed to raise for metalling the roads in their districts. They had laboured hard and suffered long with mud roads in wet weather, he said, and were entitled to the utmost consideration.
