MINERS' BENEFIT FUNDS.
REGISTRATION OF RULES. [by TELEGRAPH.—rRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Saturday. A judgment of much importance to labour unions was delivered this morning in the case in which the Waihi Miners' Union sought the ruling of the Supreme Court on tho refusal of the Registrar of Industrial Unions to register certain new rules providing for the payment of benefits to members injured by accident or to relatives of members killed by accident. Tho registrar refused to accept the rules on the ground that they were ultra vires so far as the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act was concerned. The judgment of Mr. Justice Chapman was in favour of the action of the registrar, ruling that in the absence of an express provision in the Act tho proposed rules must be considered to be beyond the scope of the Statute,
