CALL FOR ACTION OH THE WHOLE RUSSIAN FRONT.
HIGH COMMAND SAYS DECISIVE BATTLE HAS BEGUN".
"THE ENEMY WILL HEAR THE THUNDER OF OUR CANNON." Router - . (Received 11.20 p.m.) PETEOGEAD, July 3. The high command of the armiea on the western front has issued an order of the day stating: "The army on the south-western front has defeated the enemy. A decisive battle has commenced on which depends the fate and liberty of the Russian people. Our brothers on the south-western front are advancing victoriously and look to us for prompt assistance. * We will not betray them. The enemy will hear the thunder of our cannon, and the troops on the western front will put forth all efforts, otherwise the Russian people, who entrusted us with the defence of their liberty and honour, will curse us."
The term " western front" used in the cable applies to what the British press usually terms the " Eastern front." It is eastern from the point of view of British geography, and western from the point of view of Russian. It embraces the northern and central sectors of the Russian front, the southernwhere fighting is now taking place—being usually termed by the Russians the south-western front.
