TAILORS' DISPUTE FILED.
[by telegraph.—press association.]
WELLINGTON. Thursday.' The hearing of the dispute filed,by the Tailors Union was commenced before the conciliation commissioner, Mr. Hagger, today.
Mr. W. Grenfell, agent for the employers, applied for an adjournment so that the employers in Auckland and Wellington might confer. He realised that any award made would bo converted into a Dominion award.
i M. J. Reardon, agent for the union, opposed the application, arguing that ample time had been given. He referred to a newspaper article criticising the men's claims before the dispute was heard. Mr. Doherty stated that he had merely given an interview explaining the general idea in the minds of the employers, though he only spoke for himself. The Commissioner: Don't you see it would be.likely to prejudice settlement? Suppose every employer did the same thing. Mr. Doherty said ho had simply shown how the man's wages could be increased.
After further discussion the hearing was adjourned until July 84. '
