ARBITRATION COURT.
MINOR MATTERS DECIDED.
A sitting of the Arbitration Court was held yesterday, Mr. Justice Stringer presiding, with him Mr. W. Scott, assessor for the employers, and Mr. J. A. McCullough, assessor for the employees.
The compensation cases of Iveson v. Davis and Crowley v. the Union Steam Ship Company were struck out, the plain* tiffs not appearing.
In regard to the dispute filed by the Auckland condiments and drug factory employees, the Court was asked simply to fix the holidays of. the trade, all other points having been settled by the Conciliation Council. The holidays claimed were January 1 and 2, Anniversary Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, the Sovereign's Birthday, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. Mr. B. Martin appeared for the union and Mr. S. E. Wright for the employers. The case turned upon the objection of the employers to granting January 2 or more than a half-day on Boxing Day and New Year's Day. After hearing evidence the Court saw no reason for withholding the ordinary holidays of other trades. The agreement arrived at in the Conciliation Council in regard to the gumworkers dispute was made into an award, the Court to come to a decision as to the terms of underrate workers.
Dates for the hearing of other disputes were fixed as follows Chemists' assistants dispute, to-day; fishermen and trawlers, Saturday; upholstresses, Monday; pork butchors, Tuesday. The Westfield chemical manure workers dispute was withdrawn. An amendment of the award in regard to tanners and fellmongers was agreed to between the parties, adding a war bonus of Id per hour to the rate of wages for the period of the war and three months thereafter.
