THE AUSTRALIAN REFERENDUM.

Sir.—lt is inconceivable that in a country where, for the most part, the inhabitants are of either British 01 Irish stock, the majority of the men would deliberately vote for cowardice and disgrace. I, therefore, suggest that where both sexes have received the franchise the ballot-paper given to a female voter should be of a different colour from that of the ballotpaper given to a male voter. This would disclose into which scale the majority of the women cast their votes, and would. I believe, give rise to regret in those States that, have fallen into the pit, and be a timely warning to those States which sophistries have led to the brink ->f the abyss. J. S. Oockhrton.
