SPIRIT OF THE SIXTIES.
Sir.—l happened to be in an Otahuhtt hotel yesterday. The last occasion that I was there was 53 years 20, when I, a boy of 16, and a volunteer, camped at Otahuhii. In the billiard-room I saw 23 young fellows watching a game. This mimbtr added to the two players made 25.-who ought one and all to have enlisted. I was saddened, for I remembered in our little Maori War we young fellow? tumbled over one another to volunteer. not waiting to be pressed. lam now an old man. and do not like to put myself forward for fear of being told that I only talk because I knew that 1 shall not h'o called up, but I cannot help contracting the spirit of over 50 years ;il-.. and today.
