MINING NEWS.

OCCIDENTAL CONSOLIDATED. The drive on the Occidental reef at No. 5 level, Occidental Consolidated mine, Thames, was driven 6ft last week, making a total distance driven of 30ft from No. 1 crosscut. The ore from the Occidental and No. 2 reefs continued to he of a good quality, and gold was-seen when the reefs were being broken down. The main shaft was sunk to a depth of 95ft, WATCHMAN. The reef in the intermediate drive, Watchman mine, Thames, continued to show colours of gold last week. In No. la level, the rise on the blow was up 30ft. Ihe reef continued small, but showed a slight improvement in value. The rise on the Aliddle Parallel reef was up 70ft, and the reef was carrying favourable minerals Colours of gold were showing when breaking down operations were in progress. NEW SYLVIA. The manager of the New Sylvia mine, Thames, reports that one stope was going between the winze and No. 2 rise last week. The reef was Bft wide, and of good value. South of No. 2 rise the reef was heavily mineralised. The drive on the Norfolk reef was advanced 12ft. The reef had become very small, and a crosscut into the footwall was started, an advance of 10ft being made. DOMINION. During the past week, the low level crosscut at the Dominion mine, Karangahake, was advanced Bft, making a total of 1805 ft driven. Good, firm reef country was penetrated, and water was still issuing from the face.

HAURAKI REEFS.

Good crushing dirt was coming to hand from the back of No. 3 level, Hauraki Reefs mine, Coromandel, last week, and about 81b of picked stone were selected.
