CURIOSITIES OF SOUND.
"Curiosities of Sound" was the subject of an interesting address delivered by Professor Gwilym Owen at the Leys Institute last night. Mr. T. W. Leys presided over a large attendance. The speaker began by stating that sound required a material medium for its transmission, such as air, wood or water. By an entertaining experiment, he showed that sound cannot be transmitted through a vacuum. Therefore, he declared, if a 15in gun were fired on the moon there would be little or no sound. The audience was interested by a variety of experiments for a couple of hours, and the professor was heartily thanked for his able address.
