The third grade competition, which has not yet reached finality, will be continued at Remuera grounds this afternoon- The defeat of Hobsonville by Mount Eden last week has evened matters up a little, and the championship is in an open positionCards come to hand during the week from Trooper W. H. Johns, the ex-Waipa and Auckland representative player, and Sergeant Geo. H. Holland, late secretary of the Rotorua Hockey Association. Both left with the Waikato Mounted Rifles attached to the main Expeditionary Force. Both reported " all well" at time of writing, on July 14. PRIMARY SCHOOL NOTES. Another representative trial match will be played this morning, and in the B grade a combined match Takapuna and Stanley Bay v. Mount Eden and Remuera. will be played. The North Shore team will play in white shirts, and the town team in navy shirtsAfter the latter match a team will be chosen to play the B team of the seniors the following Saturday. The B grade championship finished up la*t week in a most unsatisfactory manner. Mount Eden met and defeated Stanley Bay by 3 goals to 0 in a keenly-contested game, but Remuera defaulted to Takapuna, notwithstanding that this meant giving the Lake team the championship, and robbing Mount Eden of any "chance of success. Remuera's action was not only unexpected, but altogether unaccountable, and in the absence of any official explanation, must be strongly condemned. The school won the A grade championship and was under a moral obligation to play the final round in the B grade. By failing to do so it not only robbed Mount Eden of its chance of success, but has also placed Takapuna in an embarrassing, position. If the time fixed for the match did not suit, then it could have been altered to meet the mutual convenience of the teams. The following table shows the positions of the teams at the conclusion of the B grade championship: —
Goals Ck. P. W. L- D. For As. Pts. Takapuna ... 12 9 3 1 3" 9 19 Mount Eden ... 12 8 9 9 81 7 IS Remuera ..12 . 3 7 2 IS 35 8 Stanleyßay ... 12 1 10 1 6 38 3 Takapuna. which has met with success in its first year, is to be congratulated. All the boys were quite new to the game, but rapidly pulled into shape under *h* c<*ach*n«t of Mr C E. Sontt. the ex-TTni»ed Club player, and haT* throughout exhibited con. siderable keenness in the same. It is hoped the school will be able to enter a senior team next, year Mount Eden, runners.np. had hard luck bein<» little, if any. inferior to the winners. St»nley Bay relayed a fine Inning tram*, and exhibited Rood sportsmanship throughout Indeed, the eleven was deserving of much more success. LADIES' MATCHES.
