RUSSIANS ISSUE FROM DIFFICULT POSITIONS.
STUBBORN GERMAN ATTACKS FROM GRODNO. v Petroqrad, September 9. ' The following official statement has been issued" order to occupy a position better covered, the Russians retreated a little. from the right bank of the River Lautze. The Germans maintained a violent bombardment, accompanied by asphyxiating gases, on troops occupying the outlets of the lakes in the Troki region, "near Vilna. "Stubborn German attacks from Grodno continue. We repulsed an attack in the direction of Skidel, south-east of Grodno, with great loss. * " Our successful issue from difficult positions in the advanced Vistula theatre, surrounded by the enemy, is making itself felt by partial successes."
