GERMANS LOSE HEAVILY AT SKIDAL. (Received September 10, 9-90 p.m.) Petroqrad, September 9. An official communique states: " Stubborn fighting has taken place between the.Lautske and .Takobstadt. Although the Germans did not offer any resistance to bayonet charges, they delivered a series of attacks for the purpose of driving the Russians from the right bank of the Duerna. We stopped the enemy's offensive south-east of Skidal, inflicting considerable loss- The Russians continue their premeditated retreat, and occasionally deliver counter-attack* " On the roads to Kovno the Russians are resisting the enemy's great forces, which are advancing along the Olykaklevan railway. The enemy is supporting its offensive by artillery -fire of. the most violent character,- which the Russians are enduring with the greatest courage. . "The enemy at Tremboola on Wednesday evening retreated in great haste towards the Strypa. The pursuit continues. We have captured along the Sereth since September 3 383 officers, over 17,000 men, and 99 guns.''
