The German Third Guards Division and 48th Reserves Mi. Division, reinforced by an Austrian brigade, and a great quantity of heavy and light artillery, had prepared for a decisive attack for several ipjX days. The attack was fixed for Tuesday night, but, forestalling the ffi ■ - enemy, we took the offensive. After a stubborn fight on the River Doljonka, the Germans were completely defeated. The Germans at ilp; , 'the end of the engagement developed artillery fire of the most extrapill ordinary intensity, and only the impossibility of replying with the Eame weight of metal prevented us further developing our success. g Besides enormous losses in killed and wounded, the Germans |ft* left over 200 officers and 8000 prisoners. Of 30 guns captured, 14 were ■•■',■ . \ of heavy calibre. Many machine-guns were taken, and other booty. Our troops reoccupied the original positions on the Sereth.
