ONEHUNGA BOROUGH.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. TnE meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council - last night was attended by Messrs. J. Howe (Mayor), C. C. Davis, H. J. Davies. E. J. Higgins, G. L. Taylor, W. W. Warnock, W. J. Bravin, T. H. Pardington, E. V. Sutherland, and I. Lomas. The Automobile Association forwarded a set of by-laws for regulating motor traffic, with the suggestion that these be adopted by the council so as to secure uniformity throughout Auckland and the suburbs. It was pointed out that the local bodies are to fix the speed limit for motor-cars travelling •on the public thoroughfares. The association suggested that motor-cars should be limited to eight miles an hour when turning a street corner. The association further suggested that the council might removo the Seddon Memorial from its present position opposite the Royal-Oak, and put it on ono of the sections of land obtained in that neighbourhood for street widening purposes. On tho motion of the Mayor, it was decided to consider tho by-laws in conjunction with another copy of by-laws received fronv Local Bodies' Association. Also, that the Automobile Association bo informed that the question of removing the Seddon Memorial' will be considered if the association will find tie money. An account was received a fortnight ago from the District Health Office ■ foi analysing the Onehunga water. The council, at its last meeting, declined to acknowledge any liability, seeing that the test was made without the council's knowledge or sanction. Further correspondence from the Department pointed out that it had been decided to charge the local authority controlling the water supply with the cost whenever any water was tested. The council decided to reply that it had not been notified of the Department's new intention before making the recent test, and it, therefore, declined to admit liability. Mr. Warnock moved, "That iii view of the apparent inadequate tramway service provided during the hours when business people are going to and from town and having regard to other important matters requiring urgent attention, a special committee, consisting of the Mayor, and Messrs. Sutherland, Taylor, C. C. Davis, and the mover, be set up for the purpose of interviewing the manager of the Auckland Electric Tramways." Mr. Warnock said that in some of the early morning cars passengers had to stand from the Seddon Memorial to the city, and that the public could not board these cars at Greenwood's corner, which was a great inconvenience. The motion was carried. The following committees were set up: —Streets, Lighting, and Sanitary : Messrs. C. C. Davis (chairman), H. J. Davies, Q. L. Taylor, and E. J. Higgins. Finance : The Mayor (chairman), Messrs. E. V. Sutherland," W. W. Warnock, and T. 11. Pardington. Reserves, Cemetery, and Fire Brigade : Messrs. W. J. Brewin, E. J. Higgins, I. Lomas, and T. H.
