BRITISH OFFENSIVE SPOILS GERMAN PLANS.
RESERVES IN BELGIUM HURRIED TO FRONT.
GREAT MOVEMENT OF TROOPS DURING PAST FORTNIGHT.
(Received June 20. 3-80 p-m )
Amsterdam, June 19.
During the nine days that the frontier of Belgium and Holland was closed 400,000 German troops traversed Belgium, of which 300,000 were sent into the fighting-line where French pressure is dangerous. One hundred thousand, with 200 heavy guns, were held in reserve at Courtrai and Roulers in the hope that they would have an opportunity of breaking through the allies' lines, but during the last three days they have been hurriedly sent to defend the German trenches at La Bassee and Ypres against a British attack in force. This magnificent surprise smashed the enemy's plan.
