GRANT HERVEY ON TRIAL.

_ & Sydney, June 18. The Australian writer. Grant Hervey, has been retried on a charge of forging a telegram in connection with the Norton divorce case, and has been sentenced to two years' imprisonment, sentence to be cumulative on the previous sentence of two years in connection with the sumo case. Mr. Justice Braund, in sentencing the prisoner, said: " You appear to bo a pastmaster in scoundrelism, and von are a danger to the community. You have shown great ability in crime." ,

The charges arose out of divorce proceedings. in which it was alleged that Hervey had undertaken to procure, for a consideration, evidence of misconduct on the part of the woman. It was stated that prisoner had posed as the other party in the misconduct, and had obtained £200 for his evidence.

Sydney, June 18. Mr. Griffith, Minister for Works, replying to a deputation from the prohibition party, asking that school children bo taught the injurious effect of liquor, said: " If I were Tsar of this country, I would abolish the pule of intoxicants altogether." He added that a text book was being prepared to meet the deputation's request.
