INTREPID PHOTOGRAPHER.
CAVALRY CLASH FILMED. As" Englishman, whose name is given as Erkoll, lias been made the subject of ;in encomium for his bravery in taking < inematograph films for a Russian society amid shells and rifle, fire. It appears that when the Russian cavalry were attacking the German cavalry near Przemysl Mr. Erkoll galloped ahead of the Russians, dismounted in a favourable position, and photographed the two cavalry forces at the moment when they dashed together. On another occasion near Tarnow, when Erkoll was taking photographs under the fire of the huge German " Jack Johnsons," or "portmanteaux," as we call them here on the eastern side of the war, a shell destroyed his apparatus, while lie himself was wounded in the hack and arm. He is at present in hospital.
