His Honor Mr. Justice Hosking left fo» Wellington by the midday express on Thursday to attend a sitting of the Appeal Court, which will deal with the election petitions.

Dr. W. H. Parkes and Dr. Hope have returned from Wellington where they attended the first meeting of the Medical Hoard constituted under the Medical Practitioners Act passed last session.

Mr. J. I. Brittain, who has been promoted from the position of American Consul-General for New Zealand to the position of American Consul-General for Australia, will leave Auckland for Sydney, on Monday. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Brittain.

Mr. Harold Gregson, who was the judge in the music section of the recent competitions in Christchurch, returned to Auckland on Thursday afternoon. Mr. Gregson will leave in June for a six months' tour in the United States. Ho will give organ recitals in a number of cities, and will probably give some performances at the Panama Exposition.

The Holy See has created the Rev.i Dean Mahoney. of Onehuiiga, and the Rev. Dean Hackett, of Paeroa, monsignori, conferring the honour of prelates to His Holiness Benedict XV. Henceforth they will be known as the Right Rev. Consignor Mahoney and the Right Rev. Monsignor Hackett respectively. Monsigno' 1 Mahoney is a native of Auckland, and; was educated in Europe, returning as a priest in 1884. Monsignor Hackett was born in Ireland, and was educated and or-> dained at Propaganda Fide, Rome. Ha arrived in Auckland in 1884, and has since ministered in the Auckland diocese.

Mr. Primrose McConneTl, who has resigned the position of manager of the Ruakura State farm for the purpose of taking over the management of the Dilworth. Estate, was tendered a complimentary picnic, organised by the Hamilton branch of the Farmers' Union, at the Ruakura farm on Wednesday last, and was presented with a cheque and a copy of an address, which is to be illuminated. There was a large gathering of farmers from all parts of the district. The presentation was made by Mr. E. McGregor, who paid a warm tribute to Mr. McConnell'a good qualities- Other speakers were: Mr. Sturges, president of the Ruakura branch of the Fanners' Union; Major Lusk, Auckland provincial president of the Farmers' Union ; the Hon. J. Fisher, M.L.C.; Mr. Ross, representing the Auckland Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union; and Mr. A. E. Manning, Mayor of Hamilton. Telegrams were received from the Prime Minister and from Sir James Wilson, president of the Dominion Council of th? Farmers' Union, regretting that other engagements prevented them from being present. Mr. McConnell, in his reply, returned thanks to the subscribers of the gift, and reviewed the work of the Ruakura farm. On Thursday evening Mr. McConnell entertained the staff of the farm, on which occasion he was presented with a gold watch, a presentation being also made to Mrs. McConnell. Mr. C. Cussen, who has been in charge of the poultry division since the inception of the farm, and who has been appointed to tho position of poultry instructor, was also presented with a gold watch.
